Details

Dr. Shirley Rietdyk is an Associate Professor of Health and Kinesiology at Purdue University. She earned her B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo in Canada. Professor Rietdyk specializes in the interaction between neural and mechanical systems in the human body. The focus of her Biomechanics Laboratory is on the interaction of the neural system with the mechanical systems of mobility, posture, and balance. This research is directed toward discovering interventions for aging individuals with decline in the balance control system. Specialized equipment for monitoring a test subject's movement and applied force in three dimensions is used to study the biomechanical systems of interest.
