Dr. Steven F. Son is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics and Astronautics by courtesy at Purdue University. He received his B.S. and M.S. from Brigham Young University and his Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After graduation, he accepted the J. Robert Oppenheimer Fellowship at the Los Alamos National Laboratory where he then became a Project Leader and Technical Staff Member. Dr. Son's work has been recognized with numerous awards. Most recently, he was named a Purdue University Faculty Scholar, 2010 to 2015, and received Purdue's Seed for Success Award in 2009. Dr. Son's research interests include multiphase combustion for propellants, explosives and pyrotechnics, nanoscale composite energetic materials, advanced energetic materials, and microscale combustion.
