Dr. Sophie Lelievre is a Professor of Cancer Pharmacology at Purdue University and Associate Director of Discovery Groups for the NCI-designated Purdue Center for Cancer Research. Dr. Lelievre received her D.V.M. from the University of Liege (Belgium), M.S. and Ph.D. in Cancer Pharmacology at the Gustave Roussy Cancer Institute and University of Paris VI, and an LL.M in Public Health from the University of Rennes I, (France). Dr. Lelievre is a Purdue University Faculty Scholar (2011-16). In 2015, she received the Indiana Woman of Achievement Award with Distinction in Breast Cancer Prevention Research from Ball State University. This award is given in recognition of women in Indiana who are making a difference in improving life by virtue of what they have decided to do with their lives. Dr. Lelievre was cited for her breast cancer research using cells grown in three-dimensional cell culture to better mimic tissue within a living system and her research into breast cancer prevention, including establish the International Breast Cancer and Nutrition Program. Dr. Lelievre's laboratory research is targeted towards early detection and prevention of breast cancer. Her breast cancer research focuses on the role of cell nucleus organization in gene expression and genome stability, and the relationship between tissue architecture and functions of the cell nucleus.
