Abu-Omar, Mahdi M


Dr. Mahdi Abu-Omar is the former R.B. Wetherill Professor Chemistry-Inorganic Chemistry at Purdue University. Dr. Abu-Omar is currently the Mellichamp Professor of Green Chemistry at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Dr. Abu-Omar earned a B.S. from Hampden-Sydney College and a Ph.D. from Iowa State University. Dr. Abu-Omar has received recognition as a Fellow, American Association for Advancement of Science, 2012; a Purdue University Faculty Scholar, 2008 to 2013; and a Senior Fulbright Fellow, U.S.-Israel Education Foundation, 2008. His research group focuses on developing metal catalysts for renewable energy, environmental applications, and metalloproteins relating to disease.
