Dr. Jenna Rickus is a Professor and Associate Department Head of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, Professor of Biomedical Engineering, and Associate Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning at Purdue University. She is a leader of the Physiological Sensing Facility in the Bindley Bioscience Center and Birck Nanotechnology Center. Dr. Rickus received a B.S. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering and Biochemistry from Purdue and a Ph.D. in Neuroengineering from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Rickus has been recognized with numerous awards. She was most recently named a Purdue University Faculty Scholar, 2016 to 2021, 2015 College of Engineering Faculty Award of Excellence for Advising, and the 2015 Most Distinguished Faculty for Research, which honors a faculty member whose research has inspired a student's passion for a specific field of study. Her lab focuses on cellular engineering, the design of new materials to measure, control, and mimic living cells. Dr. Rickus' research interests include bioencapsulation, biosensors, and cell transplantation, with applications in diabetes, agriculture, and neuroscience.
