Dr. Thomas Siegmund is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and the head of the Microstructure Testing and Analysis Lab at Purdue University. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Leoben, Austria. Dr. Siegmund was elected a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), which promotes the art, science, and practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the world. He was a previously named Purdue University Faculty Scholar. His research interests include soft tissue biomechanics with focus on tissue active in phonation processes, hard tissue biomechanics with focus on fracture toughness of bone, materials design of mechanical and acoustical metamaterials, digital materials manufacturing, and fracture and fatigue.
