Dr. Arun Bhunia is a Professor of Food Science and Comparative Pathobiology (by courtesy) at Purdue University. He was named Outstanding Graduate Educator for the Department of Food Science in 2010, and he earned the Institute of Food Technologists Research and Development Award in 2009. Dr. Bhunia received a B.V.Sc. in Veterinary Medicine from West Bengal University of Fishery and Animal Sciences and a Ph.D. in Food Microbiology from the University of Wyoming. Dr. Bhunia's research focuses on the development of a novel detection and diagnostic tool for foodborne pathogens employing optical and electrical biosensors and understanding molecular mechanism of pathogenesis for enteric pathogens during intestinal phase of infection and subsequent control strategies using probiotics.
