Dr. Riyi Shi is a Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Neurosciences at Purdue University. He received his M.D. from the Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine in 1984 and his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 1994. Dr. Shi specializes in uncovering the mechanisms of central nervous system trauma and diseases, instituting new treatments through innovative experimentation, and pioneering new strategies in the field. His research interests include cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying nerve damage and recovery, tissue engineering in mammalian nervous systems, polymer-based tissue repair, and biomechanics of spinal cord injury.
