Dr. Song Zhang is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Purdue University. He received his B.S in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology of China and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stony Brook University. Dr. Zhang is a Fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). In 2012, he received the NSF CAREER Award and the AIAA Outstanding Paper Award in 2013. Dr. Zhang's research focuses on superfast 3D optical sensing/imaging and 3D telepresence, and exploring application areas that such platforms technologies could conquer their challenges. He is currently developing multi-scale superfast 3D optical sensors to capture extremely rapidly changing biological and mechanical events; high-accuracy 3D optical sensing technologies for quality control in the manufacturing industry; and developing small footprint real-time 3D optical sensors for human computer interaction, virtual reality, and biometrics applications.
