Researchers at Purdue University have developed a new N-95 facemask for better fit, handling, and sustainability. N-95 masks are especially important for industrial workers, surgeons, and medical professionals – having increased urgency in lieu of the COVID-19 pandemic. There are many parameters that must be fine-tuned in the making of an N-95 mask to ensure user health and safety, and as such there remains a need to extend the lifetimes of these masks because they typically have a short expiration date. The N-95 created by Purdue researchers meets these challenges by providing additional straps at a non-fixed attachment that better connect the mask to one's face and more "tabs" for securely fitting the mask to further limit potential for contamination. In addition, this N-95 mask design allows for easier cleaning and sanitizing.
