Researchers at Purdue University have developed a set of standards to quickly, inexpensively, and accurately determine the composition of fuels via two-dimensional gas chromatography with the use of a flame ionization detector (GCxGC-FID). Historically, accurate determination of fuel composition is a time consuming and expensive endeavor. This new development in standards, however, is much quicker than previous methods and has been validated with the industry accepted and accurate NMR method. Although the set of standards for detailed middle distillate fuel analysis was developed for aviation fuel analysis purposes, they can also be used in numerous other fuel analysis or chemical classification applications.

Advantages:
-Low-cost
-Simple
-Accurate
