Several of the available countermeasures available act as an infrared hot body to misdirect a mobile infrared tracking device away from an asset. Most use flares instead of lasers to protect the assets against threats. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), has developed and patented a countermeasure method for a mobile tracking device using laser jamming that provides a most effective way of confusing infrared guidance systems. This technology was designed to protect aircraft or other assets from passive weapon guidance systems, such as missiles, which use infrared seeking technology, confusing their guidance system and causing them to miss the target. Advantages: -Capable of jamming multiple types of tracking devices -Most effective against nonimaging mobile tracking devices Potential Applications: -Military |
