Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), has developed and patented a method and apparatus for resisting ballistic impact in an effort to improve anti-ballistic protection for people and property. The ballistic resistant apparatus includes an outer energy absorbing assembly that has a front face, a rear face, and a plurality of layers that have a plurality of interconnected fibers. The outer energy absorbing assembly is configured to absorb energy from a projectile traveling from the front face toward the rear face.
