Several available countermeasures act as an infrared (IR) hot body to misdirect a mobile IR tracking device away from an asset. Most use flares instead of lasers to protect the asset against threats. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane), has patented an apparatus for interacting with a mobile tracking device and a portable cutting device. The portable cutting device is a laser power source method of focusing the laser's optics and at least one flexible laser directing device. The lasers can be either continuous wave semiconductor lasers or quantum cascade lasers. The embodiment of this invention includes improved barrier breaching capabilities for law enforcement, military, firefighters, and other first responders. The High Power Laser System is currently in use. Advantages: -Confined space cutting -Lack of operational fumes -Enhanced safety measures -Precision cutting -Noise reduction -Portability -Underwater cutting capabilities |
